Curriculum Overview
The school curriculum is constantly being reviewed and updated to reflect changes in government guidance, what best suits the needs of our pupils and, most importantly, to ensure it inspires all the children to learn, discover, play and experience the awe and wonder of new knowledge and skills. Our curriculum provision follows the 2014 National Curriculum which you can view here.
At Carsington & Hopton C of E Primary, we have two mixed-age classes that work on 2 and 4 year rolling programmes of study to ensure they cover all key topics. We teach all curriculum subjects, including a modern foreign language for all ages, whilst always focusing on the needs of every individual and supporting them in becoming lifelong learners that have a thirst to always find out more.
You can view our rolling curriculum programme by clicking here.
Our whole curriculum also promotes acceptance and engagement with the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Pupils develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.
We assess children's learning against the 2014 National Curriculum and provide them with suitable challenge and a strong sense of the next steps they will take in their learning.
We use phonics to help support early reading skills through the Sounds-Write scheme, and encourage all parents and carers to read far more widely and not to allow scheme books to dictate children's experiences of reading.
Most importantly of all, we want the children to have fun, to be happy and to come into school with a spring in their step! We hope that by looking around our website in areas like 'School Events' and 'Children's Work', you will see our ethos in action. Staff and children love it here and that is the most important thing we can say!
